Medicare plans in Minnesota have some big changes coming up, and MN insurers are scrambling to make the transition as smooth as possible. Beginning January 1, 2019, Medicare "Cost" plans will no longer be available to residents in the metro area, and members will be forced to switch to a Medicare "Supplement" or "Advantage" type of plan.
These Cost plans have been very popular for Seniors, and we've known for several years that these would be terminated, a decision made by the Center for Medicare Services. With these changes, new insurers to MN have entered this market, which is good for competition perhaps, but makes the choices all the more overwhelming.
I realize this does not affect the commercial coverage you have through our agency, but please keep in mind that if you have an employee, friend, or family member, who may be turning 65 in the near future or even currently has a Medicare Cost plan, I can assist these folks. I have been selling Medicare products for over 15 years, and each year we must be recertified by taking educational courses and pass a rigorous exam. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Happy Summer!
